We have exciting new Tella updates to share—updates that make me and the Tella team proud of what we've built together. At the same time, we want to share an important challenge we’re facing and invite you to be part of securing Tella’s future.

Right now, Horizontal is navigating a transition. The Trump administration’s funding freeze has disrupted our operations, and we’re working hard to adapt by exploring new revenue models to ensure Tella’s long-term sustainability. While we’re making progress, this is a critical moment where community support can make a big difference.

New Tella releases

Tella Android 2.15.0

  • 📷 Zoom in on images stored in the Tella vault.
  • 🌍 New languages: Tsonga & Portuguese (Mozambique).
  • 🎥 Fixed camera preview bug affecting photos and videos.
  • 🔄 ODK connection improvements: Save multiple favorite forms, attach all files with a single tap, support for File question types, and a fix for audio recording crashes.
  • ✨ Lot of bugfixing and UI improvements.

Tella iOS 1.14.0

  • 📄 Fixed HEIC file previews.
  • 🌍 New languages: Indonesian, Tsonga & Portuguese (Mozambique).
  • 🔒 Limited access to photo gallery for better privacy.
  • ✨ Lot of bugfixing and UI improvements.

Tella FOSS 2.11.0 (F-Droid)

We’ve updated Tella FOSS, the fully free and open-source version of Tella, to bring new features to those who cannot or choose not to use any proprietary or closed source libraries.

  • 🔍 Privacy-preserving analytics (opt-in only).
  • 📄 View PDFs inside Tella.
  • 🖼️ Edit images within Tella’s encrypted container.
  • 📝 Send anonymous feedback & bug reports.
  • 🌍 Tella Web connection: to send reports and download resources.
  • 🔒 Background encryption while collecting data.
  • 🗑️ Option to delete original files after importing.
  • 🔄 New language support: Kurdish, Persian & Vietnamese.
  • 🚀 Performance and security improvements.

We’re working towards unifying Tella Android and Tella FOSS versions soon, so Tella FOSS users don't have to wait much to get the features we release on Tella Android.

Coming Soon: Offline encrypted file sharing

In the middle of these challenges, we have one standing project thanks to our friends at OTF. This project will allow offline encrypted file transfers between Tella users. Our team is working hard on this feature, and the UX prototype is ready for feedback! Check it out and share your thoughts: Prototype.
