Hi dear community,

As we wrap up the year, we believe we are in a perfect moment to catch you up on what we’ve been working on over the last few months.

Latest Tella releases

More languages in Tella

Thank you to our amazing community of volunteers, Tella is now available in 23 languages. In the releases of the last few months, we added Chinese and Azerbaijani🌍🌏. If you feel like contributing, we always appreciate it.

Needed technical refactors

We also worked on needed updates for the latest Android and iOS releases. Updating the libraries that Tella uses makes it easier to maintain, quicker more stable. If you try out Tella Android 2.18.1 and Tella iOS 1.17.0 and have any feedback about the improvements, please let us know!

Unifying codebase for Tella F-Droid and Tella Android

We started working on a single codebase for Tella Android, so we could publish to both the F-Droid store and the Play Store on every release, responding to many users asking us to update the F-Droid version of Tella more regularly.

🤖 Nerd Alert - technical explanation : Right now, since Tella F-Droid is a fork of the Tella Android codebase. Everytime we want to update Tella in the F-Droid store we need to manually pull changes to the F-Droid repo, test, review and publish. This doubles the work for every release and makes it much more complicated to maintain. This is why we are working to integrate everything into a single codebase (replacing, as much as possible, the libraries that Tella uses with FOSS ones). The work will be big, and will require a lot of testing, but we are convinced that it will be worth it 🦾.

Improving onboarding

During these months, we also added an onboarding tutorial to the iOS version of Tella. Our Design team also applied the recommened next steps on the Usability Audit that our friends at The Engine Room, who collaborated with us through the OTF User Experience & Discovery Lab. The process was deeply useful and informational for our team, and we are excited to share progress.

We focused on making the description of Tella’s features more accessible for new users, while also explaining that Tella stores content locally on the device and offering guidance on good practices to protect and back up the lock. Please feel free to share any feedback before we begin implementation!

Soon: Nearby Sharing

We received the Security Audit that our friends at Convocation.Lab did for us. Our team will start working on the proposed fixes and improvements early in 2026. We will keelp you all posted on progress and timeline!

Hope you have a good end to this SO CHALLENGING year .

Looking forward to hear from you all.

Un abrazo,

Caro
