A new release of Shira is live! Here's what to expect in this release.
The short version
If there was one feature that was universally requested by the community, it's this one: private quizzes—quizzes that can only be taken by learners who have been approved by an admin. And private quizzes are now available in Shira!
If you already created your Space, there is nothing special for you to do to get access to private quizzes: just head to your Space, create a new quiz and set its visibility setting to private. If you don't have a Space and want to work with private quizzes, you can create your Space here--it'll take less than 2 minutes.
After creating a private quiz, you'll need to invite your learners to join your space, and once they've registered, you'll be able to assign them the private quiz!
Deep dive
Up until now, Shira let you share your quizzes through a link: publish your quiz, copy the link, and share it with your learners. Sharing a quiz through a public link means in just seconds, you can make your quiz available to large numbers of learners, and it scales without any issue—you can share your quiz in a mailing list, a group chat, or even on social media. Public quizzes are perfect for public awareness campaigns or to train a wide and diverse group of people.
But public links also mean that anyone with the link can take the quiz. And at times, this is not desirable: to make your quiz as useful to your team as possible, you may want to mention in the quiz some identifiable information—the name of your coworkers, the location of your office, events that your organization participates in, etc. These pieces of information can make your quizzes more realistic and better prepare your learners for phishing attacks that specifically target your organization. That's exactly what a private quiz is for, to let you use in your quiz real information without worrying that this information will be accessed outside of your organization.
A second benefit from private quizzes is that you will (soon) be able to track how your learners are doing. Public quizzes already let you see how your learners are doing on a given quiz, but a learner in a public quiz is by definition anonymous: it is anyone who clicked on the quiz link. So with public quizzes, you cannot identify the specific learners who did well on your quiz and those who need extra support. Private quizzes solve this issue: to take a private quiz, learners first need to register to your space. When these registered learners then take your private quizzes, you will be able to see the score received by each learner and which questions they struggled with.
This is how private quizzes work in Shira:
- Invite your team to join your Space by entering each learner's name and email address. Each will receive an email invitation to register to your Space.
- Create a new quiz and set its visibility to 'private'. Add questions and publish your quiz.
- Assign your quiz to all the registered learners who want to see take the quiz.
- That's all! Those assigned the quiz will receive an email with a link take the quiz. And from the Learners tab inside your quiz, you will be able to track who completed the quiz and who has yet to take it.
Now that you know all about private quizzes, try it out and let us know what you think!
And keep an eye out for our next release in just one month—this is when you'll be able to see how each of your registered learners is doing on your private quizzes!
